Dr. Mohamed Helal Receives a Grant from STIFA to Develop Alzheimer's Treatment

Dr. Mohamed Helal, Associate Professor, Drug Design and Development, Biomedical Sciences Program, received a grant from the Science, Technology, and Innovation Funding authority for the development of novel beta secretase inhibitors for the treatment of Alzheimer's.

This disease is a neurodegenerative condition characterized by significant synaptic loss and neuronal death in brain regions critical for cognitive functions.

The objective of this research is to design and synthesize drug-like molecules with a β-secretase inhibitory activity using a combined fragment-based and structure-based approach.
