Center for Photonics and Smart Materials awarded NTRA fund
Professor Salah Obayya, director of the Center for Photonics and Smart Materials (CPSM) at Zewail City, has been awarded the National Telecommunication Regulatory Authority (NTRA) Fund of 1.5 million Egyptian pounds for the year 2014.
His research proposal aims to transform the existing telecommunication technologies into more energy conserving ones, while allowing them to accommodate applications with excessively high data transfer rates. In this context, photonic communications are expected to play a fundamental role in reshaping the IT sector as a whole.
The center will start working on the new research project in November 2014 and the fund will support the project for two years.
