Misr El Kheir Foundation honors CTP director on ‘Day of Knowledge’

Zewail City of Science and Technology is proud that Dr. Shaaban Khalil, director of the City’s Center for Theoretical Physics (CTP), will be honored by the Misr El Kheir Foundation’s Scientific Publication Award. The award is in recognition of his leading scientific contributions in the field of theoretical physics.

As part of the City’s mission to develop education, scientific research, and innovation, Dr. Khalil is scheduled to give a lecture titled "Basic science and knowledge economy" on 9 February at the Smart Village Conference Center.

The lecture will be delivered during an event organized by the Misr El Kheir Foundation under the title "Misr El Kheir’s Day of Knowledge". A number of scientists who have contributed to scientific research in Egypt will also participate in the event.

Dr. Khalil is a prominent high-energy physicist who made outstanding contributions to the understanding of new phenomena, beyond the standard model of particle physics. In 1997, he completed his Ph.D. in the field of elementary particle physics at the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP). He was also a research fellow at the Institute of Particle Physics Phenomenology at the Universities of Durham, Sussex, and Madrid.

A former Fulbright Fellow, Khalil has published more than 100 scientific papers in prestigious journals with citation numbers of 2500 and an h-index of 29 whose details can be found here. His pioneering work from Egypt has enabled him to obtain the degree of Doctor of Science (D.Sc.), with Royal Society referees, from Ain Shams University. He holds a professorship at Ain Shams University and was on the faculty at the British University in Egypt (BUE). And, he is a Leverhulme visiting professor at the Physics Department of Southampton University, UK.

The CTP was inaugurated as the first of a series of research institutes to be hosted by Zewail City of Science and Technology. The City, in cooperation with other Egyptian centers and universities, aims at building the base for state-of-the-art science and technology, which is the backbone of today’s knowledge economy and productivity.
